The Government of Canada has passed a new law preventing non-Canadians and corporations controlled by non-Canadians from purchasing residential property in Canada for two years. The regulations, however, include an exception for any residential property outside of a Census Metropolitan Area or Census Agglomeration as identified in Statistics Canada’s Standard Geographical Classification 2021. Pemberton and the Sunshine Coast are NOT affected as they are not classified as Census Metropolitan Areas or Agglomerations. Larger cities like Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, and Kelowna are affected.
