My 46.5-hectare Lillooet riverside listing was identified by the BC Parks Foundation and partners in 2024 as a viable protection area to aid connectivity between two grizzly population units and facilitate future migration into endangered zones like Stein‑Nahatlatch. The Ryan River Conservation Area, an 87‑hectare corridor in Pemberton Meadows, was also conserved in 2020 to secure critical riparian and movement habitat for grizzlies and other wildlife.
The Pemberton Valley is more than just beautiful farmland and riverside meadows—it’s also a living example of how communities and organizations are working together to balance productivity with nature. The meadows draw people in with their sweeping views, fertile soil, and rich wildlife habitat, reminding us how deeply connected we are to this place.
The Coast to Cascades Grizzly Bear Initiative is a collaborative, science-based effort restoring five threatened grizzly bear populations in southwest British Columbia and Northwest Washington through habitat protection and community partnerships.
