BUYER MOVING TIPS:
If you are a fan of making lists, now is the time including dates and times
4 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE:
- Ask your realtor for professional movers and contact them to obtain quotes
- Notify Canada Post of your new address and when to cancel the old one
- Contact your family, friends, Banks, Periodicals, Doctors, Dentists, Charge Cards, CRA, BC Hydro, Fortis Gas, Telephone, Cable, Internet, Alarm Company, Insurance Companies and Pension Companies
- Change your Drivers License and Medical Cards
3 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE:
- Arrange to have utilities, phone, cable, internet, alarm and appliances disconnected
- Determine which items you will keep and give away to family, friends, consignment stores, Salvation Army, etc. Perhaps a garage sale...
- Organize your possessions so you can label the boxes and decide which rooms they will go to in your new home
- Keep valuable items, artwork, money, important documents aside so that you will move them yourself
2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE:
- Make an appointment and time for the cleaners to come in
- Return any items borrowed from family, friends and neighbours
- Pay all invoices and organize your finances in advance of the move
- Plan and measure your new home to determine where everything will go
- Line up some help on moving day if possible
1 WEEK BEFORE YOUR MOVE:
- Review your check lists and stop all newspapers, magazines, etc
- Prepare for your final garbage day
- Start to pack your clothes and personal effects
- Reserve elevators and parking areas for your move
MOVING DAY:
- Move smaller items into one room and yard items to one area
- Once everything has been loaded, make a thorough check of all rooms, cabinets, attics, basements, garages, outside to ensure everything is gone
- Empty and clean refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers
